Longer passwords for your security

The longer your passwords, the harder they are to crack

Despite the introduction of biometrics such as facial recognition and fingerprint ID in the last few years, passwords remain the most popular way to authenticate users. While passwords may be the favorable method, they still carry the most risks. How strong are your passwords?

In order to ensure your password is strongly protected against hackers, there are some things you should avoid:

  • Too short

The longer and more complex the password, the better. It’s no secret that longer passwords ensure a better protection against the shorter as it can be harder for hackers to crack. Ideally, your password should be no shorter than 8-12 characters.

  • Too personal

Try to avoid any personal information within your password such as dates and children/partner/pet names. This information can be easily found via social media networks and will allow your password to be cracked in minutes.

  • Lack of special characters

Length on its own won’t ensure a secure password, complex passwords with random words and mixed characters will increase your security. Special characters such as these should be included ()!“£$%&*~@}{?>< Uppercase/lowercase
